From 1 Kings 17: Waver

“Then Elijah approached all the people and said, ‘How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him. But if Baal, follow him.’ But the people didn’t answer him a word.” (v. 21)

A lot of us self-identify as believers, as Christians, and as followers of the God of the Bible.

That’s good.

But, when you scrutinize our lives, it’s probably pretty likely that we lean on some other identities, too. We lean on our politics. We lean into our family scripts. We lean, as fans and followers and even obsessives, on cultural influences.

That’s…less good.

The call of the Scriptures—made powerfully evident in the ministry of Elijah—is that there is only One worth leaning on, worth identifying with, worth choosing. Only this God acts, saves, sustains, moves, and provides. Everything else is less than subordinate. Honestly, everything else should be put away in favor of purer worship.

So look at your life. Pay attention to the places you find yourself wavering. And choose to lean only on Him.
